Come work with us! commonvision provides real-world experience to students in a collaborative, supportive environment. We typically hire in the Spring semester for Summer/Fall start due to staff graduating. We may open positions at other times of the year as needed, so be sure to follow our social media and myUMBC group for the latest information.

Role Job Descriptions

Our Animators are responsible for advertisements for digital signage, social media, and the web for events and programs around campus. A great job for hands on, creative students who want to learn more about animation, motion graphics, and graphic design. This position requires at least 15 hours a week during a regular semester.

commonvision is looking for students who are comfortable working in:

  • After Effects CC
  • Illustrator CC
  • Photoshop CC

Bonus Points If:

  • You have experience with Premiere CC
  • You have experience with Maxon Cinema 4D
  • You have an interest in or have basic graphic design principles
  • You have an interest in or have experience in video/film
  • You have an interest or experience with sound editing
  • You have an interest or experience in photography

Your personality is along the lines of:

  • You really freaking love animation/motion design
Our Graphic Designers are responsible for on-campus advertisements, design for digital environments (social media and file creation for motion graphics), print design, and more! A great job for hands on, creative students who want to learn more about graphic design, print, and promotions. This position requires at least 15 hours a week during a regular semester.

We’re looking for students who are comfortable working in:

  • Illustrator CC
  • Photoshop CC
  • InDesign CC

Bonus Points If:

  • You have experience in pre- and post-production print, or any other kind of printing skills
  • You have interest or experience with animation/motion design
  • You can get super nerdy about typography
  • You have an interest or experience in photography

Our Office Assistants are responsible for print job order intake and are trained on print and production services. A great job for hands on, creative students who want to learn more about print production and graphic design.

You do not have to be a visual arts major to apply to this position! This position requires working the front desk, so you will be the face and voice of commonvision. This position requires at least 15 hours a week during a regular semester.

We’re looking for students with:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A great sense of organization and planning
  • A sense of humor
  • Ability to work without constant supervision
  • Comfort with learning new technology

Bonus points if:

  • You have customer service experience
  • You have an interest in visual arts, design, and/or animation
  • You have an interest or are involved in student events
  • You have an interest or experience in photography

This position requires working in the production room of commonvision for at least 15 hours a week during a regular semester. No printing experience is required; we will train the right person.

Students will be responsible for:

  • Receiving, reviewing and processing print orders
  • Prioritizing tasks for efficiency and tight deadlines
  • Modifying existing digital projects using InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop
  • Running print jobs on wide format and large volume printers
  • Take the lead installing projects around campus
  • Using other finishing services as required by the project

  • Lamination and foam board mounting

We’re looking for students with:

  • Experience working with MAC and PC Operating Systems

Our Photographers/Videographers are responsible for capturing images of the campus, event photography, as well as videography. These images will be used for print materials, digital signage, social media, the web, and more. A great job for hands on, creative students who want to learn more about photography and UMBC. This position requires 10 hours a week in studio plus nights/weekends to cover events during a regular semester.

commonvision is looking for students who are comfortable working with:

  • DSLR, Mirrorless Cameras
  • Lighting Equipment
  • Sound Equipment
  • Adobe Premiere CC
  • Adobe Lightroom CC
  • Adobe Photoshop CC
  • Attending student organization events, potentially on evenings and weekends
  • Interacting with photo subjects and making them comfortable on camera

Requirements

All roles have the following non-negotiables:

  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must pass a judicial and ECR check
  • Must have at least 2 on-campus semesters left
  • There is no required level of experience or class you must have taken to be considered – just show us your work (if applicable to the role)! These are on-campus jobs that work with your class schedule.
